ISM Dhanbad Admissions 2015

Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad was established by the British India Government and was formally opened on 9th December, 1926 by then Lord Viceroy Lord Irwin. ISM was granted the status of a deemed university in the year 1967. The University started walking on the road of education with a motto- “Arise, Awake and Learn by approaching excellent teachers “with an aim to excel in the field of education. The university is located in the mineral rich belt of the Indian city, Jharkhand with a campus sprawled across 393 acres. ISM houses all the world class facilities and is considered as one of the highlights of the city. The university runs under the vision of Retd.  IAS officer Prateep Kumar Lahiri.

Admission to B.Tech Programs

Admissions to all B.Tech programs are made through Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) conducted by JCECE Board constituted by Govt of Jharkhand. Lateral entry to diploma holders in engineering and technology is made in the 3rd semester through competitive examination conducted separately for them. The number of seats through lateral entry in all branches are 10% of the normal seats.

Admission to M.Tech Programs


Admissions to M.Tech programs are made through written test/interview conducted by the institute. Candidates with a valid GATE score with B.E. /B.Tech or equivalent in respective discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent C.G.P.A ( in case of SC /ST the minimum marks of 55% or equivalent C.G.P.A) from recognized University/Institute, are eligible to apply in prescribed format.

Candidates possessing above qualifications and having valid GATE score will be entitled for monthly stipend as per the A.I.C.T.E. / Government approved norms. If seats are not filled up with GATE qualified candidates for M.Tech program, other candidates may also be considered without monthly stipend.

Admission to Research Programs


Admission to Ph.D (Engineering) program in various engineering disciplines and interdisciplinary area is made through written test/interview conducted by the institute. Candidates with M.E. /M.Tech or equivalent degree in respective discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent C.G.P.A ( in case of SC /ST the minimum marks of 55% or equivalent C.G.P.A) from recognized University/Institute, are eligible to apply in prescribed format.

Candidates possessing above qualifications and having valid GATE score will be entitled for monthly stipend as per the A.I.C.T.E. / Government approved norms.
